Loving the One

A young friend of mine had her first book published and released on Amazon last week.  More about that at the end of this blog.  The following sentences were extracted from page 104:
🙶... if we don't love the single person God has put in front of us, we don't truly love.  Love is lived out with the real people whom God has sovereignly placed in our lives. Love becomes real by embracing the one.🙷
Why does this mean so much to me?  Because I work with an organization in Uganda whose mission is Changing Uganda One Person At A Time.

C.S. Lewis wrote:
🙶It is easier to be enthusiastic about Humanity with a capital H than it is to love individual men and women, especially those who are uninteresting, exasperating, depraved, or otherwise unattractive.  Loving everybody in general may be an excuse for loving nobody in particular.🙷
This is a  story about loving that one.

A simple invitation to visit the government hospital with Nurse Susan turned into a one person campaign to love Lydia ... in making what was so wrong right.

Nurse Susan with Lydia & Elijah
at the government hospital a week ago
Lydia, age 26, has been married to her husband Elijah for two years.  He took her to the government hospital because she had been sick since her operation at the same hospital back in November of 2016.

Elijah originally took her to the hospital because of the pain she was experiencing in her abdomen.  An assumption was made that Lydia had an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside of the uterus).  No scan was conducted.  No confirmation was made through diagnosis.  The assumption led to an order for an operation.

The operation was botched and her reproductive organs got all messed up. Since that time, Lydia has been so sick she has not been able to even get out of bed.

Unreceptive to help at the government hospital
When Susan and Rebecca found Lydia she was anemic and her body was covered with bedsores.  And, she was in so much pain that she refused to let anyone touch her.  When Rebecca approached her bed, Lydia told her with resolve, "Don't touch me!"

Rebecca left the ward and began to talk with God.  Was God putting just this one person in front of her to love?  If so, how could Rebecca love her if she didn't even let her touch her? After her conversation with God, but still unsure of what to do next, Rebecca returned to Lydia's bedside and was surprised to hear her ask, "Would you please help me?"

Convinced she should pursue helping her, today Rebecca, along with Susan and Meddie, transported Lydia and Elijah to IHK for examination, diagnosis, and treatment.  When Susan and Rebecca requested medical records from the government hospital there were none. This is a fresh start with some bad history.

Rebecca  is one happy girl
after taking Lydia to IHK
Rebecca communicated  she wanted to love Lydia or she was going die.  And, the only way she knew to love her was to get quality medical care for her.  I agreed that we would "walk by faith and not by sight" since our sight revealed that we had no money in the NGM Medical account.  Fortunately, Next Generation Ministries has a great working relationship with the hospital and they allow us to retire medical bills monthly.

Dr. Ben is one of the best wound care physicians that works out of IHK.  He loves God and people and treats each patient as though they were his only patient.  I suggested Rebecca have Dr. Ben examine Lydia.

After blood tests and scans of all her vital organs, Lydia was diagnosed with sepsis, severe malnutrition, and anemia.  All of the smaller wounds on her body were cleaned, but there is so much dead tissue around the larger ones that they will require surgical removal.  She has been admitted and she will receive nourishing food and compassionate care.  All because one aspiring doctor saw a need and moved to meet it ... loving the one God put in front of her.

Rebecca would like to have Lydia examined after she recovers to evaluate the condition of her uterus. But, it will be some time before that can be done.  She needs immediate and then recovery care first.

I'm reminded of the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan.  I'm sure that many people walked by and around Lydia when she was at the government hospital.  It's easier to love all the patients than that one ... just that one that God puts in our path.

Serious wound care is needed
God's people should be people who love people because God is love.  But, love is personal.  Love sees people ... sees a person ... and takes steps to communicate that love in real tangible and practical ways ... just like Rebecca is doing.  And this is a great story as far as I am concerned.

Our choices create a culture.  Whatever we choose or whatever we allow defines an organization.  NGM quickly tells others  we are Changing Uganda One Person At A Time.  But, without the choices and actions to go with that mission ... they are just meaningless words.

Remember I mentioned that we walk by faith and not by sight. This medical journey could costs as much as $2,000.  You can love Lydia too.

At the beginning of this blog, I mentioned a book that had been released last week on Amazon.com.  Sacred Mundane is a book that God can use to get you unstuck in your life ... Kari Patterson has an essential message of freedom, purpose, and joy. She has gifted Next Generation Ministries with 200 copies of her book so they can be used as a means to raise funds for the work we are doing in Uganda.

A minimum donation of $50 or more will bring this book to your door step.  If you make this donation, you will benefit from its message and Next Generation Ministries will continue to love people ... one person at a time.  Send a check for $50 or more to the address listed above.

Note that the donation is for the BOOK OFFER.
